The Great Barrier Reef on the coast of Queensland is a garden under the sea. There are 1,400 different kinds of fish, and more than 300 kinds of coral. Tropical fruit and flowers grow on the beautiful islands. It's not surprising that more holiday-makers come to Queensland every year. Tasmania, the island south of Australia, is small. It's the same size as England. It is also very different from the other states. There are no deserts in Tasmania. It often rains, both in winter and summer. Only a half of million people live in Tasmania, and a large part of the island is still covered with wild, beautiful wild forests. These forests are full of wonderful flowers and interesting animals.

Как ни крути, а Турция глубоко мусульманская страна. И женщине здесь отводится далеко не главная роль. Мирок большинства женщин в Адане (пятый по величине город в Турции) изобилует домашними хлопотами, заботой о детях и о муже. Наиболее целеустремленные, а таких совсем немного, работают в среднем звене.

I wrote the following story several years ago and had it posted on a website designed for Americans that live in Russia. Although it may be hard for a Russian person to understand the American love for peanut butter; for an American far from home it is easily understood. At the end of the story I have written an additional update on the subject.

Вы, возможно, уже слышали о рамадане — это своеобразный пост, как в России, только время этого поста в Турции меняется каждый год. В этом году он начался 31 августа (хотя в Тунисе он начался 1 сентября — странновато, как мы решили с тунисцем) и продлился 30 дней.

В качестве столицы мировой моды Англия несколько теряется на фоне таких кладовых прославленных кутюрье, как Франция или Италия. Сложно сказать, в чем причина подобного перекоса. Однако, сейчас английских модельеров становится все больше, и самое главное — именно в туманном Альбионе произошла революция, радикально изменившая вектор развития мужской одежды.

Mark Kelleher is a native American who came to Russia in 2001. He is married to Tatiana Kelleher and has two beautiful daughters. He’s been living in Chelyabinsk ever since 2001. There he works for the private educational company «The English Club» as the head of the Work&Travel department, along with teaching English to students of the city’s universities.
