Senior Russian officials say terrorists from the troubled Northern Caucasus could be behind two deadly explosions that ripped through Moscow's subway during morning rush hour on Monday. Female suicide bombers are suspected of carrying out the bomb attacks that killed at least 38 people and injured dozens more. The blasts occurred during the morning rush hour in central Moscow. The first was at the Lubyanka metro station near the headquarters of the Russian State Security Service, known as the FSB, the successor to the Soviet KGB. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in Moscow for a key international meeting on the Middle East peace process. She also meets with Russian leaders on efforts to conclude a new big-power nuclear arms reduction accord. Clinton will meet with colleagues in the international quartet on the Middle East with peace efforts suddenly complicated by a U.S.-Israeli dispute over East Jerusalem home-building and a surge of Israeli-Palestinian unrest. The Iraq war drama "The Hurt Locker" dominated the Oscars Sunday evening. The film about a bomb disposal unit earned six Academy Awards, including for best picture. "The Hurt Locker" also brought the first Oscar for directing for a woman, filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow.

The 21st Winter Olympics in Vancouver enter their final week Sunday. Local organizers have received high marks for the way the Games have gone so far. The first eight days of the Winter Games in Vancouver have had plenty of controversy. Before the Games began, Georgian luge slider Nodar Kumaritashvili was killed during practice. Iran's president has told a crowd gathered for the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that Iran has made its first batch of further-enriched uranium. The announcement is likely to provoke more criticism from from abroad, while the anniversary celebrations have drawn opposition at home. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said scientists have enriched a batch of uranium to 20 percent, a level needed to make fuel for an Iranian research reactor. The International Atomic Energy Agency was not able to immediately confirm the announcement. Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych has a narrow lead in Sunday's runoff presidential election, and has claimed victory in what would be an astonishing comeback for the pro-Russia candidate. With more than 87 percent of the votes counted, official results give Mr. Yanukovych 48.5% of the vote compared to 45.8% for his opponent, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Current Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko faces former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich in a presidential runoff February 7. In this report from Washington, Senior Correspondent André de Nesnera profiles Ms. Tymoshenko, a leading figure in what became known as the "Orange Revolution." Yulia Tymoshenko was born in 1960 in the industrial city of Dnipropetrovsk, in eastern Ukraine. Her rival for the presidency, Viktor Yanukovich, was also born in that city, but 10 years earlier.
